MY BELIEFS AND REFLECTIONS

As I leader I have the necessary skills in directing, coordinating, and ensuring implementation of tasks related to technical, infrastructure, standards and integration of emerging technologies that are part of an educational organization. These skills require a deep understanding and awareness of complex systems which address such needs as network management, security, disaster recovery, bandwidth, legal compliances and support. At times it is also necessary to ensure that we have appropriately accessed external supports appropriately.

I have continued to grow the depth of understanding in these areas by working closely with team members and professional colleagues to further my expertise in overseeing technical systems, network infrastructure and device management. This involves keeping aware of emerging trends, new technologies, planning, and collaboration. Asking the right questions, seeking full disclosure of potential options presented by technical staff and encouraging out of box thinking that is focused on long term results is necessary.

Careful consideration needs to be given around purchasing and implementation while forecasting future needs of the organization so that long term sustainability and evergreening remains possible. Knowing the pulse of the organization and the technical team allows me to set practical and realistic timelines for technology implementation with a variety of ongoing projects. Plans for continuous growth and sustainability must be an integral part of the leadership thinking.

COMMENTS FROM COLLEAGUES

There are times when "realistic timelines" seems to be a challenge. Sometimes I think you "push" on purpose...so we see that we can accomplish things we may not have in the past, and maybe in an effort to improve efficiency in the department.

Mark has a genuine highly collaborative approach to his leadership and decision making.

Mark does a great job explaining why and how technology implementation changes and rollouts will occur.

You plan and you have a good working knowledge of what is reasonable in order to put programs in place that will do what we want them to do.

I appreciate all that Mark does in WCPS. I appreciate his approachability, willingness to problem-solve, and integrity as a leader. Mark's skills and close ties to the role of school leaders has moved WCPS Tech Services in a positive direction.

Mark may not know everything about our infrastructure; but he knows what he doesn't know and is completely unabashed when it comes to asking questions.

Mark is learning more about our infrastructure all the time.

I am impressed with the level of understanding you have about our network as a whole, even though it is not your primary responsibility. And then if you need to know more about something specific, you are not hesitant to ask, and you actively listen when it's being explained to you. It seems that you know lots about all areas of our department (Powerschool, network, software, etc), which is great...it shows you like to be involved in our 'stuff'.
